10" (25 cm.) Lady doll with bisque shoulder
head,sculpted blonde hair in page boy style with
gilt-edged pink luster and white feathered head
dress,green painted snood at the back of the
head,cardboard-covered torso and "skirt" that
covers the internal mechanism,brass lower legs
and shoes,leather arms,nicely costumed.
Condition: generally excellent. Marks: patented
July 15,1862,in Europe,20 December 1862 (base of
skirt). Comments: circa 1870,the patented
American walking doll was created for nearly a
decade with heads made of bisque or paper mache;
when keywound,the doll slowly lifts its feet up
and down as though walking. Value Points:
beautifully preserved doll with well-functioning
mechanism,elaborate coiffure.
