Theriault’s annual June Marquis auction features the estate collections of Nikki Kvitka of Pennsylvania highlighted by extraordinary Schoenhut circus rarities, the estate collection of Georgia’s doyenne doll collector Georgia Alarcon, and the estate collection of Elizabeth Knych of New Jersey with extraordinary pristine and rare model early dolls by Lenci. The remarkable auction swerves between the finest French dolls including very rare tiny size 0 and 1 bébés by Thuillier, Bru and Jumeau, to the magnificent circus wagons, tents, animals and performers by Schoenhut, and along the way offers a collection of very rare mignonettes and all-bisques, as well as wonderful rarities from the Lenci firm and more than fifteen rare models of Schoenhut dolls in impeccable condition. Automata is highlighted by the romantic Pierrot Serenading the Moon. Of special features is the very rare model 208 bisque character doll from the Jumeau Series Fantastique of which only 17 examples existed in the 1899 inventory of Jumeau dolls.
The collection is presented in a one day auction. Collectors are urged to plan to attend the auction to view these rare dolls in person, but the auction is also streamed in a live online presentation. Bidding is welcome in attendance, online, by telephone, or by traditional absentee bidding. The dolls are all presented in a beautiful art catalog titled “Jubilation” with award-winning photographs, historical backgrounds and full descriptions of each doll.
