26" (66 cm.) All-cloth doll with rich ebony complexion, pressed and oil-painted facial features, dark eyes with red upper eyeliner and defined sockets, fringed brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with full lips, sculpted ears, black fleecy wig, stitch-jointed body with bare feet, brown sateen torso cover, black oil-painted lower arms and legs, well costumed in antique dress, apron, bandanna and undergarments. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Martha Chase, Pawtucket. Rhode Island, circa 1900. Value Points: rare model from the cottage industry dollmaker, with especially fine detail of modeled features, gentle expression. Ex-Collection Mary Merritt Doll Museum.
