18" (46 cm.) All-cloth doll, firmly-pressed socket head with oil-painted complexion and features, blue upper-glancing eyes with thick red and brown upper eyeliner, short feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with very full lips, brunette human hair bobbed wig, stitch-jointed arms and legs, separately-stitched thumbs, original studio costume. Condition: generally excellent, some silk frailty of dress. Marks: L.R.Kampes Atlantic City Pat. Nov. 2-20 (ink lettered high on back of head). Comments: "Kamkins", the doll was patented in 1920 by Louis Kampes and sold on the boardwalk in Atlantic City for about ten years; the specialty of the dolls was their artistic facial painting and stylish costumes of the era of which this doll is wearing an example.
