Description
23" (58 cm.) Bisque socket head portraying an adult man with highly-defined characterization around the eyes and cheek planes, brown glass inset eyes, painted lower lashes, slightly-modeled brushstroked brows, aquiline-shaped nose with accented nostrils, closed mouth with firmly set lips, center accent line on lips, defined philtrum and creases at lip corners, brunette mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 1303 S&H 10. Comments: Simon and Halbig, circa 1890, from their 1300 art character series. The model was adapted for several variations because of its highly-characterized adult expression, including as native American or black or mulatto complexions, having been inspired by international travelers to the grand expositions of the era. Value Points: outstanding sculpture on this example portraying a handsome aristocratic gentleman with finest quality of bisque and painting, fine antique velvet and silk marquis costume.
