Description
20" (51 cm.) Standing upon a fabric-covered platform is a bisque-headed girl with brown glass eyes, painted dark lashes, brushstroked brows, shaded nostrils, closed mouth in wide smile with outlined lips, row of porcelain teeth, impressed dimples, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, bisque shoulderplate, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms. She is holding an elaborate silk costume and woven bonnet decorated with fabric cherries, and holds clusters of cherries and a wooden birdcage with little feathered bird. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 203 Depose Tete Jumeau 4 (head) (original paper label on base). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1892, when wound, the doll turns her head side to side, nods, and alternately lifts her left hand extending the bird and cage toward the cherries which she then extends in her right hand; meanwhile music plays. Value Points: the charming presentation and actions are enhanced by the very rare art character face created by Jumeau expressly for this luxury automaton.
