Description
38"w. x 15"d. x 15"h. The two-room wooden dollhouse setting has original natural wood finish with richly-carved columns and pilasters, and a set-back raised alcove with five-angled walls, spindled balustrade, and three stairs. There is wooden tongue-in-groove style wainscoting and chair rail all around the parlor and alcove, and a matching double paneled door. Wooden cornices top each window and door, and there are wooden tie-back curtain knobs. Three tri-panel windows feature hinged lower windows and silver window knobs. The original lithographed paper simulating parquet is repeated in each room, and the house has old wall papers and borders, and matching old silk drapes. Original furnishings include highly-carved golden oak set with green-velvet upholstered settee and four chairs, table, buffet, desk, unusual seven-sided pedestal dining table, and hanging clock, three-arm ormolu chandelier, ormolu birdcage and mirror, soft metal parlor stove, porcelain gilt tea service, other accessories and prints, woven carpet, bedroom set with armoire, fitted bed, two night-stands, pier mirror, and two chairs, and more. Excellent condition. Germany, circa 1890, probably August Herrmann, with original furnishings and decorations. A nearly identical room from the original Herrmann catalog is shown in Cieslik's Lexikon der Puppenstuben und Puppenhauser, page 83. The house was previously exhibited at the well-known Landshut Toy and Doll Museum near Munich.
