18" (46 cm.) overall. 5"h. head. Lightly pink-tinted porcelain shoulderhead with perfectly oval face, slightly elongated throat, brown sculpted hair waved from face in softly rolled curls and having large white sculpted bow at the crown, painted facial features, small blue downcast eyes with well-defined eyelids, arched brown brows, aquiline nose, closed mouth, attached to wire-framed tea cozy cover, porcelain lower arms. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 399 W. Germany. Comments: Koniglich-Bayerische Porcelain in Nymphenburg, early 20th century. A very limited edition of porcelain dolls were presented at the 1908 Munich Art Doll Exhibition, designed as "decoration dolls", and dressed by the ladies of Munich in various historical costumes; other heads were attached to tea cozy frames, such as this example. Value Points: rare model with unusual and highly expressive features.
