Description
24" (61 cm.) h. x 12"l. x 6"d. The mahogany secretary desk of fine craftsmanship has dove-tailed drawers with bone escutcheons, fancy metal drawer pulls, and appears as a chest of drawers when the desk it closed. When the desk is opened, an elaborate arrangement of tiny drawers and cubicles are revealed, accented by inlays and bone pulls. Resting atop the desk is a glass front cabinet with fretwork details, containing a large number of wooden "books" with gilt lettering of titles including "History of England" and "Tales". Excellent condition. English, mid-1800s.
