Description
21" (53 cm.) Fierce face with ruddy gofun finish, brown enamel eyes, painted moustache, painted black hair, with elaborate costume comprising brocade fabric shirt under cord-threaded armor breastplate and skirt, wrapped leggings with gilt medallions, and with very elaborate sheet brass helmet with gold gilt trim and figural centerpiece, carrying sword, arrows, and other weaponry, and posed upon original base. With original wooden box with exterior Japanese signature indicating "Armed Warrior" and with Japanese language name of "Mrs. Huguette Clark" on the side indicating that the doll had been especially commissioned by her. Excellent condition. Japan, circa 1930s, exceptional detail of multi-layered costume, the consistent style of box and ningyo to "The Tale of Genji" named dolls suggest that is a character from that series.
