Description
19" (48 cm.) Solid domed bisque socket head, light brown painted hair in boyish fashion, deeply-defined eye sockets with painted blue eyes, black upper eyeliner, single-stroke brows, closed mouth with defined tongue tip, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, antique boy's costume including plaid coat, shorts, knit stockings, saddle shoes. Condition: generally excellent, few paint rubs at back of head. Marks: Max Handwerck Dep Germany (incised in script at back neck). Comments: Max Handwerck, circa 1912, the art character was registered (patented) in Germany, although few examples of the doll were made, as indicated by its rarity. Value Points: very rare doll with exceptional detail of modeling around the mouth and double chin with multiple dimples and laughter creases, unusual detail of modeling at the temple.
