30" (76 cm.) Solid domed paper mache shoulderhead with oval face, elongated throat and modeled bosom, black enamel eyes, dark eyeliner, arched feathered brows, incised nostrils, black painted pate with scalloped edging under hand-tied human hair wig, muslin stitch-jointed body with kidskin arms, wearing early cotton gown, undergarments, red kidskin boots, straw bonnet. Condition: very good, some light craquelure, piece broken off shoulderplate at back right, some light craquelure. Comments: French, circa 1840, attributed to Andreas Voit. Value Points: rare early doll in grand size with regal bearing, enamel eyes, modeled bosom. The doll appeared in the The Art of Dolls, 1800-1940 by Madeline Merrill, page 29.
