Description
16" (41 cm.) Standing upon a wooden box base with lithographed paper cover to simulate rosewood and diamond-patterned floor, is a bisque doll with blue glass eyes, painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with painted teeth, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig, wooden block torso, legs and lower arms. She is posed in front of a spinning wheel, and when wound, music plays, and she lifts her arms up and down as though spinning, while the spinning wheel turns. Condition: generally excellent, music and mechanism function well. Comments: Sonneberg, likely for the French market, circa 1880. Value Points: wonderful state of preservation of the rare early automaton with appealing homey scene.
