Description
22" (56 cm.) h. 15"l. Sitting astride a paper mache horse with painted grey finish, bead eyes, carved wooden mouth, leather harness and saddle, is a bisque-head doll presented as Polichinelle, having blue glass eyes, painted features, closed mouth, hump-backed and front torso. Polichinelle and the horse are arranged upon a wheeled wooden platform that hides a simple wire mechanism, and when pulled along Polichinelle moves his head side to side and waves his right arm. Condition: structurally excellent, original costume is faded and dusty. Comments: French, circa 1880. Value Points: wonderfully presented luxury pull-toy, the bisque doll with beautiful early face that delightfully contrasts the jaunty original silk Polichinelle costume including fancy bi-corn hat.
