10" (25 cm.) Each is of padded fabric over wire armature with well-defined details of face and fingers, the man has painted facial features, closed mouth, very tightly curled brown mohair wig with extended sideburns, wearing fitted brown silk jacket with long tails, tight pantaloons, leggings, black shoes with bows, frilly jabot, and carrying bicorn hat; the woman with dark brown mohair wig with arranged chignon at the crown and ringlet curls at her nape, wearing very low bodiced high-waist gown of ecru crepe de chine with full-length pleats, and with bronze silk wrap, trimmed with gilt beads. Condition: near mint. Marks: Dorothy Wendell Heizer (original sewn-in label). Comments: American artist, Dorothy Heizer, early 1940s, the woman is a portrait of Madame Recamier inspired by the 1800 Francois Gerard painting, and the man represents a fashionable dandy Frenchman of the era. Value Points: very rare models by the preeminent American doll artist are superbly achieved and preserved.
