Description
6" (15 cm.) Solid domed paper mache swivel head on paper mache shoulderplate, tiny enamel inset eyes, nostril accented, tiny closed mouth, bald pate, muslin midriff and upper limbs, paper mache hips and lower limbs, bare feet. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, circa 1860, the early taufling baby was inspired by the Japanese Mitsuore doll which had been introduced to the West for the first time at the 1855 London International Exposition. Value Points: absolutely delightful tiny example of the rare early doll, with original multi-layered costume and bonnet.
