16" (41 cm.) All-cloth doll with pressed and oil-painted facial features depicting an adult lady, dark brown impasto-painted hair shaped into a tight knot at the back of her head and defined by three ringlet curls at each side of her face and two curls at the sides of her forehead, blue painted eyes, red upper eyeliner, single stroke brows, strong nose, closed mouth with hint of a gentle smile, slender body with cotton sateen body cover, oil-painted arms and legs with stitch-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, separately stitched thumbs, defined fingers, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: (original Chase logo on leg). Comments: Martha Chase of Rhode Island, circa 1890, from the series of adult ladies and gentleman, likely representing characters from various books. Value Points: very rare lady model with distinctive hair color and style, original finish that is perfectly preserved.
