Description
17" (43 cm.) Pink-tinted porcelain shoulder head with very plump face, painted large blue upper glancing eyes, thick dark eyeliner, arched brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with outlined smiling lips, brunette human hair wig over cork pate, kid poupee body with shapely torso, gusset-jointing at hips, antique costume including red flannel cape with feather-stitching. Condition: very faint early hairline at right crown rim to corner of brow, some body patching. Comments: French, circa 1860. Value Points: the dramatically painted eyes and endearing smile are captivating; the doll was showcased in the Museum of Old Dolls and Toys in Winter Haven Florida for several decades until the Museum was auctioned by Theriault's in the 1980s; it has been a favorite of Lorna Lieberman since that time.
