Description
17" (43 cm.) All-cloth doll with firmly-pressed and painted facial features and short brown hair with forelock curls, amber eyes with unusual fringed irises, black upper eyeliner, single-stroke upper brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with pursed lips, firmly-stuffed twill body, stitch-jointing at shoulders and hips. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: mystery maker, probably German, in the Kathe Kruse manner. In his book, Fascinating Dolls, Samy Odin relates the story of its original owner; the doll is wearing its original traditional costume of Czechoslovakia and was brought to the young French girl by her father in the 1920s. On one of his business trips he had asked his employees there to costume the doll in an authentic folklore manner. Value Points: beautiful doll in well-preserved condition, wearing its original elaborate costume including multi-layered coiffe. Ex-Collection Paris Musee de la Poupee.
