16" (41 cm.) Bisque socket head with elongated, slender-shaped face depicting adult lady, strong cheek and jaw lines, brown glass "flirty" eyes that operate from an internal glass rod, painted lower lashes, daintily-painted brows, accented nostrils, slightly upturned nose tip, virtually-closed mouth with narrowest of opening below a row of sculpted teeth, smiling expression with impressed cheek, chin and philtrum dimples, unpierced ears, blonde mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, wearing antique red cotton mariner costume, straw bonnet, stockings, kidskin ankle boots. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 1398 Germany Simon & Halbig S&H 6. Comments: Simon and Halbig, circa 1910, only two other examples are known to exist; the doll differs from its 1388 sister by slightest mouth opening, slightly narrower nose and firmer jaw-line. Value Points: extremely rare model in desirable size, finest quality of bisque and painting, rare flirty eye mechanism, original body and body finish.
