16" (41 cm.) All cloth doll with pressed and oil-painted facial features, brown smooth-painted hair with detailed shading of color and tendrils, large blue eyes, red and black upper eyeliner, delicately fringed lashes and brows, upturned rounded nose tip, shaped lips, stitched-on ears, sateen body cover, stitch-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, antique romper costume and shoes. Condition: generally excellent, few rubs on hair at back of head. Comments: Martha Chase, circa 1890, an early doll from that folk studio. Value Points: most endearing child doll with variation of hair technique for this maker, and unusual deep texture of stockinet complexion.
