29" (74 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, blue glass inset eyes with spiral threaded eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, widely-arched brushstroked brows, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with outlined shaded lips, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, kid poupee body with gusset-jointing at hips, knees, and elbows, stitched and separated fingers. Condition: hairline on side of shoulderplate, otherwise excellent with especially sturdy body. Comments: Jumeau, circa 1875, the beautiful portrait poupee was first exhibited by Jumeau at the Philadelphia Exhibition of 1876 where he was awarded the First Prize for this model; in consequence he evolved this portrait poupee into his first luxury bebe with composition body. Value Points: the importance of the poupee is enhanced, in this case, by its superb beauty, and luxurious costume.
