Description
11" (28 cm.) Over-sized composition head of googly-eyed pup, sculpted floppy ears, red tip nose, wide beaming smile, all-wooden body with jointing at shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, knees and ankles, oversized feet for balancing; red and black painted body costume, yellow gloves. Condition: very good, touch-up on nose. Marks: "Pete, des. & Copr by J.L. Kallus" (chest label). Comments: inspired by the planned cartoon series "Hot-Dog" featuring Pete the Pup, created by Walter Lantz for Bray Studios which went bankrupt in 1927 before the cartoons could be created. This doll was designed and produced by Joseph Kallus for Cameo, circa 1927. Value Points: delightful example from the Kallus design works with fascinating back story.
