Description
14" (36 cm.) Dark brown cotton sateen doll with flat-dimensional face having varnished finish with oil-painted features, large outlined amber-brown eyes in half moon shape with white eye dots and very thick black eyeliner, thick black brows, defined nose, painted lips with coral-shaded lower lip, black wiry hair, stitch jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees, mitten-shaped hands, coral sewn-on stockings, painted brown shoes, original antique costume including turban, and gold bangle earrings. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: New Orleans Rag Doll by Maud Witherspoon, circa 1900, a note pinned inside the back skirt hem reads, "Maudy from New Orleans 80 yrs old". Value Points: very fine original condition and artistic painting of the rare doll.
