Description
17" (43 cm.) x 12". A wooden presentation box is lavishly-covered with embossed papers and with ebony-framed center panel on the lid with gilt lettering "Service The". The lid hinges open to a blue paper-lined shelved interior with porcelain de Paris tea service for six featuring a uniquely-shaped lidded teapot and creamer, lidded sugar, six cups and saucers, six spoons, sugar tongs, each still tied onto the box with blue silk ribbons. The porcelain is decorated with exotic birds on blue ground, with gilt edges; and a toleware tray with centered design of winged cherub and flowers is attached to the inside lid. Excellent condition. French, circa 1885, the clasps are incised Brevete SGDG, and the box was likely presented in a prestige Parisian store such as Maison Giroux.
