Description
7 1/2" (19 cm.) Bisque socket head has a different face on either side which can be alternately revealed by pivoting the attached bonnet at the crown; one face with gentle expression has outlined blue painted eyes with all-around painted lashes, delicate brows, closed mouth, and the other face has very rosy expression with painted blue eyes, fretful expression, closed mouth open wide as though crying, painted teeth. The head is arranged on a hollow body covered by white pique bunting, and opens at the bottom for access to the candy container torso, with bisque hands. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Leon Casimir Bru, his double-faced bebe appeared in 1883 for a very short time only; this example was commissioned by a luxury candy shop in Paris for presentation use as candy box, likely at a baptism celebration. Value Points: extremely rare and completely original, the tiniest example of the rare bisque head by the illustrious French firm.
