Description
20" (51 cm.) Standing upon a red velvet-covered platform is a bisque-head doll with blue glass eyes, mohair lashes, painted lower lashes, brush-stroked brows, accented nostrils, open mouth, accented lips, four porcelain teeth, dimpled chin, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque lower arms, wearing velvet and silk Scottish costume and tam, and holding wooden horn and baton in his hands; a drum is attached to metal rods from torso. When wound, the doll turns its head side to side and nods, eyes blink, brings the horn up as though to play, and beats drum, while music plays. Condition: generally excellent, music and mechanism function well. Marks: 1300 - 6 Simon & Halbig S&H (head) L.B. (key). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1890. Value Points: wonderful vibrant presentation of the charming Scottish drummer theme; with original tune label on bottom listing two tunes.
