Description
14" (36 cm.) doll. 11" x 16" valise. Presented within its original valise presentation box with unusual woven leather handles and lithographed paper cover to simulate lattice work is a bisque doll with shoulderhead, painted facial features, closed mouth, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, kid fashion body with shapely modeling, tiny waist, mitten hands, along with two brown sateen robes with tatting trim that are printed with embroidery patterns to be followed, and with matching cap and slippers, along with other embroidery samplers, an instruction book to embroider, and various threads and sewing tools. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1880, a similar set was shown in the Etrennes catalog of the Parisian department store Au Printemps in that year. Value Points: perfectly preserved, never removed from its original box.
