Description
23" (58 cm.) Standing upon a velvet-covered wooden base is a bisque-head doll with blue glass eyes, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils, open mouth, accented lips, four porcelain teeth, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig, wearing silk and lace ballerina costume and holding a garland of flowers, one-piece lady-shaped carton torso and right leg, and left leg bent at knee and separately-hinged at the top, bisque forearms. When wound, she pirouettes around and around while simultaneously bowing her head and arms, her bent leg in attitude devant position, extending forward and backward while music plays. Condition: generally excellent, music and mechanism function well. Marks: 1159 Germany Simon & Halbig S&H 5 (head) L.B. (key). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1900, the popular ballerina theme was inspired by the public fervor of the beloved dancer known as La Loie Fuller who appeared with Isadora Duncan dance troupe at the 1900 Paris Universal Exposition. Value Points: realistic movements are gracefully executed in the luxury automaton.
