Description
38" (97 cm.) Over-sized paper mache rounded head on very plump stomach, bald pate, sculpted large googly eyes with downcast pupils, wide beaming lips, painted upper slanted brows, large bug ears, wooden arms and legs of very slender proportions, spring-jointing at shoulders and elbows, very spindly wooden legs with oversized wooden feet, wearing red felt parade costume including marching hat, and carrying wooden parade baton with Brownie head at the tip. Condition: excellent, early professional repainting and authentic re-costuming. Comments: Schoenhut, a series of the Brownies were exhibited by the firm at the 1899 National Export Exposition in Philadelphia, likely designed on special commission as promotional figures. Few are known to exist. Value Points: very rare early Schoenhut figure with most amusing characterization enhanced by the grand size.
