20" (50 cm.) Solid domed bisque socket head with pronounced ears, brown brushstroked boyish hair, small painted brown eyes, white eye dots, heavily modeled eyelids, black upper eyeliner, short feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the outlined lips, two beaded upper teeth, composition bent limb baby body, wonderful antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: F.S. & Co 1267/50. Comments: Franz Schmidt, circa 1915, from their rare painted-eye art character series commissioned from Simon and Halbig; few examples of this model are known to exist. Value Points: rare model by that firm has exemplary bisque and sculpting, with deeply impressed cheek dimples and laughter lines, wonderful ears, original body and body finish. Ex-Welker Collection.
