Description
8 1/2" (22 cm.) Presented enclosed with original matching eight-sided frames of richest rosewood are two intensely-arranged early crib scenes which are deeply dimensional and multi-leveled, each furnished with intricately hand-carved wooden people, animals and accessories. One scene presents Balthazar, Caspar and Melchior offering gifts to the young baby held in his mother's arms, while attendants, angels and villages gather around (there are ten people and various camels and horses); and the other scene portrays the simple villagers gazing at the newborn, and offering their simple gifts (there are seven people and angels, plus many cows, goats and sheep). Each scene has elaborate original background, and each person or animal is uniquely painted. Excellent condition. Mid-1700s, outstanding in its fine state of preservation and intricate construction.
