Description
18" (46 cm.) Solid domed bisque head with flat-cut neck socket, rounded facial features, blue spiral threaded eyes with darker blue pupil rims, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, brushstroked and feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, slightly parted accented lips, row of tiny porcelain teeth, pierced ears, carton torso containing clockwork mechanism, composition arms and lower legs, hinged upper legs. When key-wound at side of torso, and lever released, the doll turns her head from side to side, kicks legs, waves arms and cries "mama". Condition: generally excellent, mechanism functions well. Comments: Jules Steiner, the model marketed as "Bebe Gigoteur", circa 1880. Value Points: very choice pale bisque with subtle blushing, original wig, wearing original antique costume including leather shoes signed L.G.
