Description
9" (23 cm.) Each is hand-carved wooden man and woman on attached matching wooden base depicting a plump costumed villager, each with hidden hinged jaw and each carrying a basket at its back which when moved up and down causes their mouth to open and close as though chattering away, perhaps bartering their wares; curiously peeking from the man's basket is a doll's head. Excellent condition, original painted finish with fine detail. Germany, early 1800s.
