Description
19" (48 cm.) Standing upon a velvet-covered base is a bisque head lady with sienna-brown complexion, brown glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with outlined lips, pierced ears, black mohair wig over cork pate, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms. She is wearing rich and colorful traditional costumes with wool and fringed trim. Behind a woven double-sided basket which contains a bounty of goods, she holds further goods in her arms. When wound, music plays and she raises arms up and down, and nods head as though offering her wares. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: L.B. (key). Comments: Leopold Lambert, with bisque head by Emile Jumeau, circa 1880. Value Points: rare automaton, especially with personage having distinctive Eastern complexion.
