Description
31" (79 cm.) Bisque socket head, blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner encircles the eyecut, painted lashes, rose blushed eye shadow, brush-stroked brows, shaded nostrils, closed mouth, shaded and outlined lips, pierced ears, blonde hand-tied human hair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body, pretty antique dress, undergarments, woven bonnet, socks and shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Paris Bebe Tete Dep 15 (incised markings). Comments: Danel & Cie, circa 1889. Anatole Danel, who had been foreman of the Jumeau firm, departed Jumeau in 1889 to form his own company in very direct competition with Jumeau; Jumeau waged a vigorous defense, and thus the life of Danel & Cie was a short-lived 3 years rendering existing examples very rare, especially in this large size. Value Points: very rare doll with beautiful bisque and splendid eyes, original body, lovely costume.
