14" (36 cm.) All-wooden doll with ovoid-shaped head, flat-cut neck socket which swivels on accommodating torso neck that is trimmed with carved beading, painted brown hair with feathered details, painted facial features, black eyes with heavy eyelids, rounded nose tip, gentle smile on closed mouth, fully-sculpted pierced ears, shapely torso with defined bosom, shapely waist, dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, painted red shoes. Condition: generally excellent, original finish throughout, nose rub. Comments: Grodnertal, early 1800s. Value Points: the rarity of the model is rivaled by the compelling presence of the doll, rarity factors include swivel neck, beaded necklace, shapely torso, brown hair, and wearing early muslin gown with soutache embroidery, undergarments, and a very fine early bonnet with original paper label having ink inscription "118 fine[?] portraits".
