24" (61 cm.) Bisque socket head, blue glass paperweight inset eyes, thick dark eyeliner, painted lashes, mauve blushed eye shadow, brushstroked brows, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with heart-shaped upper lip, upturned lip corners, separately-modeled pierced ears, brunette mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent, original body and body finish but retouch on lower legs. Marks: 11 (head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (torso). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1884, the wistful-faced model known as Bebe Triste. Value Points: especially fine detail of painted facial features, wearing wonderful purple woolen Marquis costume with matching purple velvet bi-corn hat, signed Jumeau shoes.
