Description
19" (48 cm.) Standing upon a velvet-covered base is a bisque-headed doll with a blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, lushly-painted lashes, rose-blushed eye shadow, brushstroked brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with outlined lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms, wearing bronze-silk dress with ribbon trim, matching shoes, lace-edged matching bonnet, holding a feathered-edged fan in her right hand, and a miniature book of Fables in her left hand. When wound, she turns her head side to side, and alternately fans herself, and then lifts her book as though reading, while music plays. Condition: generally excellent, Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 4 (head) (paper tune label on base indicating waltz music). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1890. Value Points: all-original luxury charming automaton, including costume, accessories and beautifully-functioning movements and music.
