Description
10" (25 cm.) excluding crown. Carved wooden swivel head with deeply-carved brown curls at back of head, well-defined facial features, painted eyes, cloth-wrapped armature body, wooden hands and full-length shapely legs, painted red stockings and gilt boots, wearing original velvet costume nearly completely overlaid with gilt metallic symbols and gilt metallic thread embroidery, including full-length cape with hip-length capelet cover, pearl and large "diamond" medallion, beaded gilt head-dress. Excellent condition. Austrian, attributed to Johann Neponuk Giner, early 1700s. The Giner family were celebrated in Austria as the creators of several important early crib scenes from their Tyrolean hometown of Thaur.
