Description
20" (51 cm.) Bisque socket head, blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, mauve blushed eyeshadow, painted lashes, brushstroked and feathered brows, accented eye corners and nostrils, closed mouth, accented and shaded lips, impressed dimples at philtrum and chin, separately-modeled and pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 9 (head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1882, their wistful-faced model known as Triste. The doll was featured in the 2016 UFDC Journal in an article written by Lynn Murray, owner of the doll. She wrote of her determination to provide an authentic trousseau for the doll which came to her uncostumed, and in that quest she enlisted the skills of internationally-known doll couturiers, including Patrizia Nicotra, Marshall Martin, Annette Knuppel, and Patrizia Aiello, each of whom contributed one or more costumes for the doll. These costumes remained with the doll, named Martine, when it was acquired by Sandy Kralovetz and are included with her today along with extensive undergarments and signed Jumeau shoes.
