Description
19" (48 cm.) Standing upon a velvet-covered base is a bisque head doll with brown glass paperweight inset eyes, painted lashes, dark eyeliner, rose-blushed eye shadow, brushstroked and feathered brows, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with outlined lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms, wearing original gold silk dress with elaborate trims, matching silk cap and slippers, and with an attached wicker lidded basket connected to her internal mechanism by a metal rod to her torso. She appears to hold the basket, and when wound, music plays, and she turns her head side to side, and alternately blows kisses with her right hand, and lifts the basket lid with her left hand, revealing a nest of flowers and a little bird which flits back and forth. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 4 (doll). (paper tune label on base). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1890. Value Points: charming automaton, in all original presentation, and with well-functioning movement and music.
