Description
7" (18 cm.) Of carved bone, the doll, depicting a young lad, has one-piece head, torso and upper arms and legs, pin and dowel jointing at elbows and knees, with ink-drawn details of facial features, hair and costume, including buttons on jacket, neck tie, and lattice-work trimmed cap. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: American, early 1800s, the carved bone artifacts, including dolls such as this, were created by naval sailors during their long hours at sea. Value Points: very rare early doll with wonderful detail of costume and facial definition.
