22" (56 cm.) Solid domed paper mache socket head with flat-cut neck socket, very plump cheeks and chin, blue glass inset eyes, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with center accent line, brunette human hair, composition and wooden bebe body with protruding neck dowel for head attachments, eight loose-ball-joints, plump limbs, straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Schmitt et Fils, circa 1875, their first period bebe. Value Points: very rare doll, considered a pivotal landmark in doll history, retains its original finish, expressive features, original body and body finish wearing antique forest-green costume with velvet and lace trim, undergarments, socks, leather shoes, carrying pressed tin watering can.
