24" (61 cm.) Bisque socket head with very full cheeks and throat, blue glass paperweight inset eyes with darker blue outer iris rims, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, mauve-blushed eyeshadow, brushstroked and feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with tiny upturned corners of upper lip, separately-modeled applied ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 11 (head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1882, from original sculpture by Carrier-Belleuse, the model known as Bebe Triste. Value Points: dainty-faced bebe with most lovely delicate complexion, artistic painting of lips and eye decorations, original early body and body finish, original pale blue silk dress, undergarments, bonnet, socks and shoes.
