13" (33 cm.) Solid domed bisque shoulderhead with light brown complexion depicting an aged woman with deeply impressed age lines, tiny blue intaglio eyes with heavy lids, strong nose, painted brown brows, closed mouth with downcast lips, prominently sculpted strong cheekbones and jowls, original brown muslin body, composition lower arms, wearing antique Native American style costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Heubach (square) 8457 Germany. Comments: Gebruder Heubach, circa 1910, the doll is said to portray Princess Angeline (1811-1896), the eldest daughter and last living descendant of the great Suquamish Chief Seattle whose poignant story has been related in several books; the doll is a precisely accurate rendition of actual photographs taken during her final years. The portrait doll is a most unusual subject for the Heubach firm, ranking among their finest models. Value Points: outstanding sculpting on the very rare model enhanced by finest bisque and painting.
