Description
29" (74 cm.) Each has pink-tinted porcelain shoulderhead, black sculpted hair arranged with short uniform finger curls and centerpart, painted eyes, red and black upper eyeliner, circle-accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with full lips, muslin stitch-jointed body, leather arms. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, circa 1865. Value Points: the dolls are a perfectly matched pair of sisters, one brown-eyed in simple muslin dress with undergarments and leather shoes; and one blue eyed and wearing an elegant velvet jacket and woolen skirt, and carrying needlework purse with silver clasp. An attached old note indicates that "the sisters were long in the collection of the late Muriel Brown of Dorchester, Massachusetts, a pioneer collector in the 1940s and 50s".
