12" (30 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, brown glass enamel inset eyes, painted lashes, brushstroked brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with accent line between the lips, pierced ears, kid poupee body. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Gaultier, circa 1875, the fortune telling dolls were created as Parisian party amusements. Value Points: with original "a bonne aventure" (fortune-telling) costume of red silk with black lace, red velvet turban, jewelry, and a bounty of folded paper fortunes hidden under the skirt, each with hand-lettered ink script "fortune" messages.
