Description
20" (51 cm.) Standing upon a velvet-covered base is a bisque-head doll with blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, lushly-painted lashes, brush-stroked brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with accented lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, carton torso and legs, bisque forearms. The doll appears to be holding a wicker basket which is actually attached to metal rods from torso; the basket holds an arrangement filled with berries and leaves. When wound, the doll turns her head side to side, nods, and alternately lifts the basket lid which reveals a hidden bisque clown, and then appears to peek beneath another clump of berries. Music plays. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau 4 (head) L.B. (key). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1890. Value Points: the doll wears (frail) original costume and carries original basket; beneath is the original Lambert paper tune label listing song "Carmen L'Amour".
