25" (64 cm.) Bisque socket head with light brown ("cafe-au-lait") complexion depicting a startled child, perfectly-oval shaped face, deep amber brown paperweight inset eyes, thick black eyeliner and painted curly lashes, black brushstroked brows, accented nostrils of rounded tip nose, closed mouth modeled wide-open as though in astonishment, sculpted upper teeth, defined tongue, defined rounded chin, separately-modeled applied ears, French brown composition and wooden fully-jointed body, antique red silk Jumeau dress with embroidered tulle trim, matching wire-brimmed bonnet, undergarments, red stockings, red kidskin shoes with silk rosettes signed "Bebe Jumeau Depose 12". Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 218 11. Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1892, from the firm's 200 art character series depicting children with vibrant and highly-characterized features. Value Points: flawless bisque and complexion, finest quality of painting, original body and body finish, costume appears original. Only a few examples of the 218 model were ever made, and this is the only existing example known of the brown-complexioned 218 bebe.
